Creation
History has proven that God has chosen man; however, man has been indecisive in choosing God. Let us check from the Unique building blocks of Creation. For example, at the beginning of time, God placed two trees in the Garden of Eden
- The Tree of Life
- The Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil
The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden was the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2:9).
The commandment was given to man not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Humanity has since then been disobedient to God’s loving commandments and continually suffers the consequences of God’s wrath.
Why Two Trees?
One could intellectually pose a fair question such as why God placed two trees instead of one in the garden; this would have restricted man’s options and ensured his obedience and prosperity in life. Such a choice would have restricted man’s free will to love God. Furthermore, it would have also made God like the Greek gods, who wanted man for labor and not for a relationship.
There were no conflicts recorded between God and other gods in examining Genesis because there was no rival equal to God.[1] The Genesis narrative of God uniquely recounts the creator’s interest to restore man in a renewed fellowship immediately following THE FALL (Gen 3:15).[2] However, in reading alternative accounts of how the Deities of Greek Pantheon created humans, there is no such concept of sin or a reconciliation of relationship with humans.[3] Rather it contains thematically mentioned battles, and upon the defeat, humans were created to perform labor for the Greek gods.
Chisholm’s Analysis
Chisholm supports his claims of the Genesis accounts being valid, based on the present realities; like the following.
- Why must man labor for Food?
- Why women experience childbirth pains?
- Why must man die?
These are few examples of historical proof of the present reality.[4] According to Chisholm, realities like these take place in support of man’s existence because of God’s creation of man. Furthermore, it attests to the punishment God placed on man for his sins, as is read in Genesis 3:16-19. According to what was mentioned at the beginning of Genesis, Chisholm provides overwhelming evidence corroborating human issues as seen today.
Since the Fall of Man, God has been on a mission to redeem His creation. For example, the first mission to save man was conducted by God when He went looking for Adam in the Garden of Eden,
“But the Lord God called to the man, where are you?”
Genesis 3:9
This mission is still being pursued today through Jesus Christ, for God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
